Welcome to the
Sunset Hill Community Association. |
|
Formed in 1922, SHCA is one of Seattle's
oldest neighborhood associations and has
played a key role over the years in shaping Sunset Hill and
Ballard.
We work directly with public officials on issues that affect our
neighborhood and the city, including public transit, local
development and quality-of-life issues.
Popular SHCA
events
include the annual Candidates' Forum, where we
talk with
candidates for City, State, County, School District and Port
offices; our annual wine-tasting; backyard wildlife
presentations; Northwest gardening lectures; hosted land-use
discussions; and the Old House lecture series, hosted by the
Ballard Historical Society.
Membership
is open to anyone who is interested in our neighborhood. To be a voting member, you must reside in the area
between NW Market Street and NW 85th Street,
from Puget Sound to 24th Avenue NW. The volunteer board
of trustees is made up of voting members elected
annually by the membership.
Built in 1929, SHCA’s classic, restored, two-story Arts
& Crafts
clubhouse is
available at reasonable rates
for community
events, meetings, workshops, parties, receptions,
weddings and anniversary celebrations.
Children await a Thistle Theatre performance in the Main
Hall.

SHCA
Programs Committee hosted a membership appreciation
event, Saturday July 21st in the evening following the
Fremont Fair and parade. A new twist on the annual
summer potluck; a Chili Cookoff! Four members made tasty
homemade (meat and vegetarian) chili for judging by the
SHCA board members. Attendees brought delicious salads
and pies to pass with appetizers, drinks and chili
fixin's offered by SHCA. A grand time was had by all,
and Marguerite Davis was crowned/shirted the winning
SHCA Chili Champ '08! In addition to a great t-shirt
Marguerite won a free SHCA Membership for 2009! Thank
you to all the yummy entries in the Chili Cookoff and
for all the lovely side dishes and desserts too.
And to All - Have a great summer!
